Abstract:
Ingi-1_BF is a consensus sequence of the young Ingi-1_BF family of non-LTR retrotransposons that belongs likely to the Ingi clade from the I group (based on the RT domain phylogeny). However, Ingi-1_BF, analogously to other Ingi-like elements from lancelet, sea urchin, sea slug and middle-African hedgehog, including Ingi-2_BF, I-1_AC, I-2_AC, I-1_AAl, Jockey1_SP and Jockey2_SP, does not code for the ribonuclease H domain. All known Ingi-like non-LTR retrotransposons contain only one ORF. A 2800-bp 3' terminal portion of Ingi-1_BF is 71% identical to the Jockey2_SP from the sea urchin genome. Most likely, such high sequence identity is due to a horizontal transfer event.
