Abstract: Chapaev3-1_ET belongs to the Chapaev3 group of the Chapaev superfamily of DNA transposons (see comments on Chapaev3-1_PM). Chapaev3-1_ET is an old family of lesser hedgehog tenrec Chapaev3 transposons: genomic Chapaev3-1_ET elements are ~87% identical to their consensus sequence, which was derived from multiple alignment of 20 copies. The transposase-encoding region (pos. 195-1568) is corrupted by genomic mutations accumulated in these elements after their transposition. Chapaev3-1_ET contains imperfect 12-bp TIRs (2 mismatches) and ~100-bp subterminal inverted repeats. The genome contains several hundred copies of non-autonomous elements derived from Chapaev3-1_ET (a few subfamilies). The Chapaev3-1_ET and lizard Chapaev3-3N1_AC consensus sequences are 97% identical to each other (see related comments on Chapaev3-3N1_AC and Chapaev3-1_PM).
