Abstract:
The genome contains several copies (>95% identical to each other) of Helitron-1_SP. Terminal parts of this transposon are not determined yet. The recovered portion of the transposon encodes a 3108-aa HEL-1_SP protein (pos. 707-10018) composed of the PHS zinc-finger (aa pos. 29-77); OTU cysteine protease (836-957); replicase (1912-1925, 2102-2109); helicase (2400-2840); CR1-like AP endonuclease (2885-3097). This set of domains is typical for HELs encoded by Helitrons in vertebrates, chordates, echinoderms and even in cnidarians (no PHD, Kapitonov VV, pers. comm.).
