Abstract: BEL5_AG is an young family of Bel/Pao-like LTR retrotransposons. BEL5-I_AG, an internal portion of BEL1_AG is flanked by BEL5-LTR_AG LTRs. The BEL5-I_AG consensus sequence was reconstructed based on multiple alignment of 20 copies; they are ~1% divergent from the consensus sequence. The consensus sequence encodes one 1723-aa BEL5_AGp Bel-like protein (pos. 93-5261). BEL5_AGp is composed of the peptidase (pos. 118-200), RING Zn-finger (pos. 300-375), reverse transcriptase, and integrase (pos. 1414-1600) domains.
