Abstract: BEL18_AG is a young family of Bel/Pao-like LTR retrotransposons. BEL18-I_AG, an internal portion of BEL18_AG is flanked by BEL18-LTR_AG LTRs. The BEL18-I_AG consensus sequence was reconstructed based on multiple alignment of 4 copies; they are ~1% divergent from the consensus sequence. The consensus sequence encodes one 1985-aa BEL18_AGp Bel-like protein (pos. 183-6138). BEL18_AGp is composed of the peptidase A16 (pos. 360-450), reverse transcriptase (pos. 970-1149) and integrase (pos. 1680-1830) domains.
