Abstract: The A. gambiae genome harbors many divergent families of P-like DNA transposons. One of those families is P1_AG. P1_AG elements are flanked by 8-bp target site duplications. Terminal inverted repeats are 11bp long. The P1_AG consensus sequence was reconstructed from several copies that are only ~1% divergent from each other. Presumably, P1_AG copies have multiplied in the genome during last 1 million years. The P1_AG encodes a 895-aa P-like DNA transposase called P1_AGp. Putative exon/intron structure (based on FGENESH): 302-563, 624-734, 797-2262, 2433-3281.
