Title:
FW2_DM, a family of Jockey-like non-LTR retrotransposons from D. melanogaster.
Journal:
Repbase Reports 2:(10) p. 5 (2002)
Abstract:
FW2_DM belongs to the JOCKEY clade of non-LTR retrotransposons. FW2_DM is a separate family. Members of this family are ~95% identical to the FW2_DM consensus sequence. Therefore, this family was active a few million years ago. FW2_DM is 68% identical to FW. The sequence is incomplete, a ~500-bp 5' terminal portion of FW2_DM is not reconstructed yet. There are 10 copies of FW2_DM present in the sequenced portion of the D. melanogaster genome. The FW2_DM consensus sequence includes two open reading frames that encode the 417-aa FW2_DM-ORF1p (positions 2-1249) and 859-aa FW_DM-ORF2p (positions 1256-3832). These proteins are similar to the Jockey-like DNA/RNA-binding and endonuclease/reverse transcriptase proteins, respectively.
