Title: BS3_DM, a family of Jockey-like non-LTR retrotransposons from D. melanogaster. |

Journal: Repbase Reports 2:(10) p. 1 (2002) |

Abstract: BS3_DM belongs to the JOCKEY clade of non-LTR retrotransposons. BS3_DM is a separate family. Members of this family are ~93% identical to the BS3_DM consensus sequence. Therefore, this family was active a few million years ago. BS3_DM is 75% identical to BS2. The sequence is incomplete, a ~2500-bp 5' terminal portion of BS3_DM is not reconstructed yet. There are ~30 copies of BS3_DM present in the sequenced portion of the D. melanogaster genome. The 539-aa C-terminal portion of reverse transcriptase, BS3_DM-orf2p, is encoded by the BS3_DM consensus sequence (positions 2-1618).
