Title: SINE2-3_SP, a family of SINE2 retrotransposons in the sea urchin genome. |

Abstract: The genome harbors ~4000 copies of SINE2-3_SP elements. The consensus sequence represents a major young family of SINE2-3_SP elements (they are >95% identical to the consensus sequence). The 70-bp 5' terminus was derived from a Lys tRNA pol III region. The autonomous non-LTR retrotransposon involved in proliferation of SINE2-3_SP is not known yet. Given the lack of target site duplications and 3' microsatellites in SINE2-3_SP, the unknown autonomous element is expected to be a member of the CR1 clade.
